Love & Hip Hop: New York star Sidney Starr has reportedly been transferred to a special housing unit at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta after identifying as a transgender woman during the booking process.
The 37-year-old reality TV personality, whose real name is Sidney Favors, was arrested on Sunday and booked on multiple felony charges, including sexual battery against a child under 16, aggravated child molestation, and sodomy, according to jail records.
Authorities said the charges are linked to an alleged sexual assault involving a juvenile.
According to TMZ, Starr was moved to the jail's vulnerable population unit, which is designed to house LGBTQ inmates. Officials said the transfer was based solely on her gender identity and not on the nature of the charges she faces.
A spokesperson for the Fulton County Sheriff's Office said Starr was assigned to the unit because she identified as someone who engages in a particular lifestyle during the standard intake process.
The spokesperson added that Starr is not under any additional security measures or restrictions beyond those applied to inmates in the same unit.
Starr has denied all allegations against her.
In a statement, she said:
"I unequivocally deny the allegations against me and intend to vigorously defend myself through the legal process."
She added:
"Allegations should not be mistaken for fact, and public opinion should never replace due process."
Starr also stressed that the accusations against her should not be viewed as a reflection of the wider transgender community.
Prosecutors allege that Starr sexually assaulted a minor during a stay at a hotel in Hapeville, Georgia. While she has maintained that the encounter was consensual, authorities allege the other individual was under the legal age of consent. The case remains under investigation.
